Announcements

Tandem 2011: Abstract submissions due Oct 14, 2010 (8/16/10)
The 2011 Blood and Marrow Transplant (BMT) Tandem Meetings will be held in Honolulu, HI from February 1721, 2011. The BMT Tandem Meetings are sponsored by the American Society for Blood and Marrow Transplantation (ASBMT) and the Center for International Blood and Marrow Transplant Research (CIBMTR). In conjunction with the Tandem Meetings, the Transplant Nursing Conference, coordinated by the ONS BMT SIG, will be held February 19-21, 2011. This marks the 13th year the ONS BMT SIG has partnered with the ASBMT and CIBMTR. Last year, over 400 transplant nurses attended!
Conference and hotel registration opened August 1 on the ASBMT Web site (http://www.asbmt.org). Nurses should register by their role (e.g. nurse, nurse practitioner, etc&) under Allied Health to receive a reduced conference rate. Nurse attendees will be able to attend all meeting sessions in addition to the transplant nursing sessions. Nurses who attend all of the transplant nursing sessions will be able to obtain approximately 18 continuing nursing education credits.
This year, in conjunction with other attendees (e.g. advanced practice providers), the first day of our meeting is a universal day which it titled: Clinical Practice Forum. This is the first time providers across disciplines and practice roles will come together to share content during the meeting. The agenda (see below) for this day and the entire Transplant Nursing Conference (see below) includes national speakers, podium abstracts, and roundtable discussions. A poster session will be held in conjunction with physician participants. If you are interested in submitting an abstract for presentation, please visit the ASBMT Web site and note the separate category for nursing abstracts. The deadline for abstract and roundtable submissions is October 14, 2010. We would like to encourage anyone who has an idea for a podium or poster abstract or roundtable topic to submit!
Please contact the co-chairs for questions:

The Use of Erythropoiesis Stimulating Agents in Cancer and Related Neoplastic Conditions
The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services is seeking public comment on their proposed determination that there is sufficient evidence to conclude that erythropoiesis stimulating agent (ESA) treatment is not reasonable and necessary for beneficiaries with certain clinical conditions, either because of a deleterious effect of the ESA on their underlying disease or because the underlying disease increases their risk of adverse effects related to ESA use.
